Bering Church blessed the union of more than 40 same-gender couples Sunday — a tulle-swathed act of “sacred protest” that stopped just shy of breaking the United Methodist’s new, harder-edged rules against performing same-gender marriage ceremonies.
Now, with the denomination on the verge of a split, Bering is one of a handful of Houston-area churches clearly taking sides.
